Safety & child protection
How we keep stories safe
Patchwork puts a child in front of AI-written stories, so safety isn't a feature — it's the foundation. Here's how it works.
Child-safe by design
Every story is written for a child aged 3–12. The story model is instructed to keep content gentle and age-appropriate, and the details you type (names, places, plot ideas) are treated strictly as story ingredients, never as instructions that could steer the story off-course.
Content is checked before it is shown
Generated stories pass an automated content check before they appear. Anything that trips our safety rules is blocked, the story is not shown, and your monthly allowance is refunded so a blocked attempt never costs you.
Parent-controlled, private by default
Story creation, libraries, voice setup, and billing live behind authenticated adult accounts. There are no public child profiles, no social feed, and no community sharing — your family library is yours.
Consent-first family voice
A family voice can only be created after an adult confirms they have permission to use it. Raw recordings are deleted after the voice is created, and you can delete a voice from the voices page at any time.
Tell us if something is wrong
No automated check is perfect. If a story ever feels off, you can delete it instantly, and we want to hear about it so we can tighten the safeguards. Contact details are on the privacy page.
